Wednesday 17th June 2020

Good morning everyone and welcome to Wednesday’s learning. Before we dive into our learning today, I wanted to show you how fabulous some of the Science work has been this week. Jake, Jimi, Joshua S and Joshua M have done a fantastic job of researching and describing the life cycle of birds and amphibians; very well done guys!

English – LO: To identify setting, character and atmosphere.

Watch the video below for today’s English lesson.

Parents and Carers, please be aware, the videos are posted to YouTube, and linked to the website for the children to use.  Due to the restrictions on the YouTube page, we cannot control the adverts which appear at the end of the videos. Please supervise your child, as you see necessary, when watching the clips.  Many Thanks.

Today, you are going to need to read up to page 119, if you haven’t done so already. You then need to copy the text below into your books and underline setting, character and atmosphere descriptions. You will need to use a key to do this, just like I did in the video above. The extract from the text below is from page 119 and is written in Summer’s perspective.

Who knew that my sitting next to August Pullman at lunch would be such a big deal? People acted like it was the strangest thing in the world. It’s weird how weird kids can be. I sat with him that first day because I felt sorry for him. There he was, this strange-looking kid in a brand new school. No one was talking to him. Everyone was staring at him. All the girls at my table were whispering about him. He wasn’t the only new kid at Beecher Prep, but he was the only one everyone was talking about. Julian had nicknamed him the Zombie Kid, and that’s what everyone was calling him now.

Maths – LO: To divide using the formal written method and interpret remainders as fractions or decimals.

Watch the video below for today’s Maths lesson and don’t forget to join in with the starter and activities.

D and T – LO: To design a product based on a design brief.

Using your research from last week, I want you to create your own design for a puppet of your choice. You could design a sock puppet, dummy puppet or a stick puppet. When you design this, you need to include the following:

  • Labelled resources for what you will need to make this
  • Labels to explain why you have chosen that design feature
  • Size labels
  • Colour

I can’t wait to see how creative you guys can be!

Reading – Continue reading the book of your choice but in between each page, I would like you to do 10 star jumps. Once you have read for 20 minutes, you need to complete a reading response activity in your reading response journal.

TTRS – Log into Times Tables Rockstars and complete at least two ‘Studio’ games. Let’s see who can move up to the next status and achieve their next certificate!
