We are gathering your views, questions and comments to help inform an important part of our current decision-making process for our school community following the governments announcement re: the phased re-opening of school.

Following the government announcement on Sunday evening, we have been awaiting further guidance and clarification with regards to exactly what schools are being advised and asked to provide with the possibility that we may reopen from 1 June to Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 pupils if the government thinks it is safe to do so.

Just after 8 pm last night, official guidance direct from the Department for Education did begin to come through to school and therefore we are currently working hard to create an action plan for our phased reopening in light of this guidance. Please be assured that we will share information from this with you as soon as possible so that you know what the reopening of our school will look like in practice.

In the meantime, we fully appreciate what a very challenging time it is for everyone and so please rest assured that we are going to be doing everything we can to make sure that we are ready to receive the government identified year groups if it is safe for our school to reopen in the coming weeks.

The guidance to date is clearly stating that families are not going to be pressured to send their children to school and we fully appreciate that you know your children and personal situation best. The health and safety of everyone on our school site are always paramount and we will keep you updated with all of our preparations for making sure the school is as safe as possible so that you can make an informed decision when the time comes.

In the meantime, our school is still open for emergency childcare only for vulnerable pupils and the children of critical workers until at least 1 June. We know some employers will be encouraging you to return to work, however, we are not in a position right now to extend places to other children until we receive further government guidance advising schools to do so.

With regards to our INSET days on Monday 1st June, Tuesday 2nd June and Wednesday 3rd June… please be advised that at this current time, these will remain in place as noted on our original school calendar and therefore no home learning will be set on those dates. Dependent on government guidance nearer these dates, we may continue to offer the emergency childcare facility as we have on each of the bank holidays to date – as soon as we have it from the government, we will provide greater clarification with regards to this.

We would like to thank you for your continuous support of our school and in particular at this current time in helping your child learn from home. Our current virtual learning offer will need to keep going for a while as yet, so please do continue to keep in touch with us – stay safe and when possible, do what you can to support your child’s learning at home.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our school via telephone, leaving a message if necessary and we will endeavour to return your call as soon as we can. Alternatively, please email… and we will respond as soon as we can.

The online learning for Acorn Class is changing for the foreseeable future due to staff absence (not Covid19 related).  Due to staff capacity, we will not be posting new learning daily – instead, learning for the week will go on the Acorn Class virtual learning page as soon as we can from today.  This will also provide children the option to work through activities as and when they can.

Learning will include…

  • a weekly English plan which has been produced by the local authority to support learning at home;
  • mathematics based tasks which will be set via Times Tables Rock Stars and Maths Shed;
  • Spelling, grammar and punctuation activities via Spelling Shed;
  • Physical Education which will be signposted to the Lancashire School Games weekly timetable;
  • Additional subjects as we are able to plan.

As always, we very much value any work which the children complete and it remains that there are no set times by which any of the home learning has to be done.

Please be assured we are still working hard to support you and your family with learning at home and therefore if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact school by telephone.

Have a great day and keep safe.

We hope more than ever that everyone is safe and well during this unusual period.
